Rally Class Information
Class Requirements
- All classes require that the dog be worked on either a flat collar, a martindale collar or a harness. No prong or choke collars.
- VDTC does have a few crates in the lobby that can be used to crate your dog while other dogs work in the training hall.
- Dogs can also be crated in your car if the weather permits - please ensure that your car is adequately ventilated

Rally Obedience is a good starting point for people new to dog sports. You and your dog navigate a course that contains a varying number of signs. You work as a team, performing the skill required at each sign. Communication with your dog and cheering her/him on is allowed. Rally requires a functional heel (i.e. a tight leash at any point through the course will result in points off and even a Not Qualified as a final score).
Rally obedience as a sport has multiple titling levels: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Excellent and Master. The Novice and Intermediate levels are performed on leash, any level above that is off leash - hence the requirement for a functional heel.
Our weekly run throughs offers a multi level course for you to run your dog perform. You can pick the signs that you're familiar with and/or learn new signs to help advance your skill set. You get multiple chances to run the course.

Rally Run Throughs - Continuing class $60/4 sessions

Taught by Teresa Russell Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:00 pm
Brush up on your Rally Competition skills. This class will consist of nested courses at different levels. People taking this class should be familiar with Rally signs.

AKC Virtual Rally
AKC has a virtual Rally program that allows you to video your runs (Novice through Excellent) and submit them to AKC for judging. Judy Gamet, our Canine Musical Freestyle trainer, works with clients to practice and then videos the performance for submission to AKC. For more details check out the Canine Musical Freestyle page.
